Cortijo Cañaveral - a paradise in the heart of nature
Cortijo Cañaveral is a small farm that has been lovingly worked organically by the present owner for the past 23 years. It is situated in a secluded and ‘hidden’ valley in the Alpujarras region of Southern Spain, close to Orgiva. It faces South East with stunning views down to the valley where the rivers Poqueira, Trevelez and Cadiar meet to become the Guadalfeo, and the mountains unfolding in the distance
The Spring
The farm has endless possibilities thanks to it’s year round water source, an abundant spring of drinkable water which is the key to all the lush life that exists here even during the hot dry summer months.
Situation
Although Cortijo Cañaveral feels remote and far from civilisation is is in fact only 20 minutes drive from Orgiva, a thriving and multi-cultural market town. The last 2.7 kilometres is on an unmade but fairly level track. This is the valley described in the Chris Stewarts best-selling book, 'Driving over Lemons'. The road into the valley is a no through road so there is rarely any traffic noise, even in the distance to interfere with the sounds of the river, the birds and occasional goat bells.

The night sky is a clear wonder of stars thanks to the almost total absence of light pollution.

Potential
With the various units of accommodation and the potential for living a self-sustaining lifestyle on the land due to the abundance of water, this place would lend itself to 2 families sharing or a small community of like-minded people. It is also the ideal place for retreats. The school bus comes this far too!
